How Rebatched Soap Is Made 🧼

Rebatching is a soap-making process where previously made soap is grated or broken down, gently heated, and reworked into a new batch. It is a useful method for refining soap and incorporating selected additives or fragrances.

The Basic Process

1. Grate the Soap

The existing soap is grated into small pieces. Smaller pieces melt and soften more evenly.

2. Add a Small Amount of Liquid

A suitable amount of liquid is added to help soften the grated soap. The quantity depends on the type and condition of the soap.

3. Heat Gently

The soap is heated slowly using a suitable heat source while stirring periodically. Avoid excessive heat, as this can affect the texture and quality of the soap.

4. Allow the Soap to Soften

As the soap heats, it gradually becomes soft and workable. Continue mixing until the batch reaches a uniform consistency.

5. Add Suitable Ingredients

Once the soap has softened, compatible additives such as fragrance or certain cosmetic ingredients can be incorporated according to the formulation.

6. Mould the Soap

Transfer the finished soap into clean moulds and press it firmly to remove air pockets and create a smooth, compact bar.

7. Allow It to Set

Leave the soap to cool and harden completely before removing it from the mould.

8. Cut and Package

Once firm, cut the soap into the desired sizes and allow it to dry/set appropriately before packaging.

Important: Rebatching methods and liquid quantities vary depending on the original soap formulation. Always test a small batch first and ensure that any additives used are compatible with the soap and safe at the intended concentration.
